This scammer contacts us every few months with some variation of the same message: he claims that he’s infected us with malware, he’s made a video showing what type of porn you’re watching on one side of the frame, and on the other side of the frame is a clip of you watching the porn. He always gives us a "deadline" to pay him. We report him as spam and remove him, but he keeps coming back.
Out of boredom one day, I decided to call the number listed. It does appear to be a phone number in Wyoming, where the company is supposed to be. A man with a heavy Indian accent answered the phone, then quickly hung up. I tried calling back immediately, but the number went straight to voicemail. Ever since then, whenever I try to call, it goes directly to an answering service that says they’re not available and then ends the call.
We just received another message, so I decided to look up the company connected to the e-mail address shown. At first glance, it looks like a legitimate page, but none of the links on the website actually work. (All social media links end up being for a company called Wix when you select them, which actually happens to be the hosting platform that we use for our website. The scammer ALWAYS contacts us by submitting feedback on our Wix-hosted website, so that stood out to me.) Furthermore, it’s actually pretty unclear as to what the company actually does.
I decided to search for their address on google maps. It leads to a parking lot next to a post office in Wyoming. (I don’t think this is a very talented scammer, but it’s definitely a scammer.)
