Over 14 years ago I was looking to start a business from home. I came across this company called Applied Knowledge Institute that had a website that promised to help people to establish a home based, online business. The stated that the potential student had 30 days to cancel free of charge from the date of initial sign up. Because they required a contract to be signed and gave the 30 day cancellation policy, I decided to move forward with allowing them to help me. However what I found out very quick was that they didnt do anything. So a week or so I called back to cancel the service. When I spoke to one of their reps they tried to give me a hard time but eventually the rep advised me during the call that their service was cancelled. Unbeknownst to me they didn’t cancel and the way I found out was that I started getting collections calls from Monterey Financial stating that they were collecting a debt. I advised Monterey Financial that I had cancelled this service inside of their 30 day return policy but Monterey kept telling me but you signed a contract. So I changed my contact information but now years later once again this company has gotten my information and started back sending me collections notices wanting me to make payments on service for something that I never used and cancelled within the required time frame. I believe both companies to be a scam and I have had the hardy time getting this of of my credit report.
