Type of a scam Phishing

I received a phone call from an individual representing himself as an employee of Direct TV and that he was offering a promotion on the monthly fee. He indicated that because there have been so many complaints about the pricing, AT&T is offering a special two-year promotional rate: $99.99 er month if you have AT&T internet, local phone service, and Direct TV or $69.99 per month if you only have Direct TV service. The subscription to Direct TV would include all the channels that you are receiving now, and upgrade to 5 premium channels, and Sunday NFL Season Ticket for the next two years. All you have to do is to pay the first 4 months of the fee (for me – $280.00) and after 4 months, you would start being billed at the rate of $69.99 per month for the next 20 months. I was transferred to the "Promotional Department" where I was told the same basic cost and service information. To secure the promotion, I would have to go to a Walgreens, Dollar General, or similar store where I could purchase a $280 e-Bay gift card. The individual explained this promotion was being paid by e-Bay and the store selling the gift card would have no knowledge of the promotion. Once the gift card was purchased, one would have to call the promotions department back (877-788-7570) and provide the gift card code to initiate the promotion. I subsequently called Direct TV and there is no such promotion and my account has not been offered any type of promotion from Direct TV.
