Type of a scam Home Improvement

A spring broke on my garage door Friday evening. I went to Google to look up the phone number of my long time garage door servicer, Kettering Overhead Door. I entered their name and clicked on the first item returned by the Google search. I called and made an appointment. Next morning I pulled an old Kettering Overhead Door invoice from my files and called the number just to confirm my appointment. I didn’t realize it was a different number from the one I had called in the evening. That’s when I learned that I hadn’t made an appointment with them, but with a company called Dayton Garage Doors that is spoofing them. I cancelled my appointment with them in time and so am not out any money. But it really bothers me that this type of trickery is out there. When I made the appointment Friday evening I talked about how I’d used them since the 1980’s(thinking I was talking to Kettering Overhead Door) and how happy I’d always been with their service. The guy went right along with it.

I’m writing to add a key point to the Scam report I submitted within the past hour. When I called the number I found in my Google search for Kettering Overhead Door, the male who answered simply said "Hello?" I said "is this Kettering Overhead Door?" And he said "Yes."
