Someone called and said that they were amazon.com and that someone had made $400 purchase on my account. They wanted to know if I had made this purchase and that if I hadn’t I should press 1. If you pressed one and told them that you hadn’t made the purchase they then wanted to help you cancel the order. To do this they needed access to your account and your personal information.

Type of a scam Credit Cards

On Dec. 21, 2020 after 11 a.m. I got on Amazon.com and opened my account to subscribe for Amazon Prime Video channel. I made the purchase and got the first month free, to be billed after 30 days at $17.99 a month for the service. I then proceeded to activate the channel on my Roku TV device. The code I was given to use to activate the service would not work. While my account was still open I then found a phone number for help on the official Amazon site. The man who took my call gave me his name which I did not write down. He assisted me with activation of the Prime channel from about 11:55a.m. to about 12:29 p.m. but had no success so at that time he told me he was getting tech assistance for me and immediately a man who said he was Rick got on the phone and began to help me at 12:29p.m. He told me numerous things to do on my computer in an attempt to activitate Prime and soon told me he had to take control of my computer. He kept telling me what to clik on and then he remarked that my computer had scamming sites on it and he had to clean them up. He got me connected to the Prime channel and I opened the channel to assure it was working and it was. He said he had something to do and he would call me back. Within a short time he called me. Rick told me my Amazon recent orders look legitimate but for me to check the orders on my Amazon account to make sure they were legitimate. I did and they were correct. Later he remarked about the $100.00 I had on my account and asked what that was for. I told him I would use it to buy books for my Kindle. Rick told me that completing "this" on my computer would take some time and he needed me to check my bank account now to make sure it had not been hacked and I foolishly did as I was told. I asked Rick if he was aware that I was going to immediately call my bank about this and he said yes, that he did. He said he needed to hang up but he needed me to help him by watching a movie on Prime for him so I could tell him how the channel was working. Rick had asked me for my credit card number and sometime later he asked for the "number" on the back. Rick said he would call me back and check on how the channel is working. As soon as Rick hung up I phoned my bank and was told my accounts were all fine but that this man was a scammer. I said, "but he works for Amazon, I called their help number for assistance and this last man, Rick did give me some code numbers eventually that activated my Prime video channel." The bank employee told me to shut off my computer and report to my credit card issuer right now, which I did. I learned that someone had just attempted to charge $1,000 to my card. I have e-mail that I can forward to you that shows this man tried to make gift card purchases to be sent to 2 unknown people. I had my Amazon account removed and reported this to ‘Frank’ at the number Rick was calling me from; 888-699-1710. Frank said the number I called was Amazon and seemed shocked and said they will investigate this.

I went to log into my Amazon account to place an order and a box popped up that said there was an issue with my account and to call them. I placed the call and they convinced me to purchase a couple of gift cards. I did and then realized this was a scam.

Received 2 calls from this number stating they were with Amazon and our account was being renewed for a fee. We don’t have an Amazon account. When they asked for an account#, I hung up. I called the number back and a man answered and said he’d gotten several calls from consumers saying they’d had calls like this from his number.

They told me to get on the computer and they’d help me take care of it. I told them I didn’t have a computer and they hung up on me.

I received a box of rubber gloves in the mail. It came from China. Amazon order. I never ordered these gloves. Nobody in my family ordered it. I opened the box. The box was soaking wet. Everything inside was wet. There were maybe one hundred gloves inside the box. No bill was inside. My son told me not to open anything from China.

Got suspicious emails asking for bank card number. And bank statements. Still can’t get into my account. They said my orders were frozen but i was still getting emails saying things were shipped. I called the number they gave 1800 201 7575 and asked for a manager n was told there aren’t any. Due to covid I can’t get ahold of anyone. I don’t even know if any of the numbers I have are real. So frustrated. Had to close my bank accounts.

Goggled looking for Amazon phone number. Called 8775629481 and asked if they had a LG sale. They informed me that they did have a phone sale but 1st I need to go to a giant food store and by a $100 google play store card. Once I bought the google play store card I called Paul back around 8:25. He explain to me that the phone will cost me $20 and then Amazon will give me back $80.

I called 18552468989 for Amazon.com that looked like official site to return a $47.65, the man on phone said no problem that an Amazon person would pickup the camera the next day. If they come I will not give it to him. He said that since they were taking so long to process item because computer was slow he wood give me a $100 Goole play card. I was leery and confused when he offered another $300. I keep asking if this was legit and he said I called Amazon and it was legit. Needless to day I was offered $1,500 as compensation because it took 3 hours to complete transaction. I was foolish to think he woul transfer all the money to my account. I also gave my checking # and routing number. Now I am screwed and scammed. Google Play cards.

i received an email to my in box from Amazon.com letting me know that my purchase of an $1800 computer was shipped to my address as requested, with my Order Details

Order #171-0183587-6223536

Placed on Friday July 1st 2018

Microsoft Surface Pro 4(512 GB, 16 GB RAM, Intel Core i7e)

Eclectronics

Sold by Adler Deals . . . I DID NOT ORDER . . . so i called the # to correct the error . . . there were 2 different men with a heavy Middle Eastern accent that said some God awful things to me that had nothing to do with a sale. They were making rude comments about my body parts and bragging on theirs. This was very upsetting and these ppl need to be stopped!

I believe this is a scam because they keep sending me this email saying that my order has been cancelled and for me to click on a link to track my order. I have not ordered anything from amazon and I keep unsubscribing from this email and it keeps coming back. And my computer alerts me that this email may contain viruses.

THERE IS NOTHING THAT TELLS YOU THIS WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR CREDIT INFORMATION!!! When you add a credit/debit card number to your account, IF YOU DO NOT UNCHECK THE BOX that is next to "Processed as a debit card," Amazon will charge your debit card TWICE, removing the total of your purchase from your bank account TWICE. When the product is shipped, they credit your account, but it takes 7-10 days for the credit to be applied to your bank account. THUS, THEY ARE WITHDRAWING FUNDS FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FOR ONE PURCHASE TWICE, WITHOUT YOUR AUTHORIZATION TO DO SO. Then, THEY ARE TYING UP YOUR MONEY FOR 7-10 DAYS!!! They initially authorize the removal of the funds, remove them, AND THEN CHARGE YOUR ACCOUNT AGAIN WHEN THE PRODUCT SHIPS. In my opinion, this is highly unethical, and borderline illegal. It’s enough that Amazon has just lost my business permanently and I encourage everyone to do the same, unless you are in favor of Amazon using your money without your authorization!!!

This company signed me up for a free month of prime membership(without notifying me) then once that month ended they charged over a hundred dollars to my debit account without my permission and without notifying me. I found out when checking my bank account. This is very hurtful since I am on a fixed income and I want others to be aware and watchful so it doesn’t happen to them. They are a million/billion dollar company is this how they got they rich? If so you should have all your money taken away and locked up and throw away the key!! This is illegal and they know it!

I will attempt to add a .docx document here, though it is not listed in attachments example. I did not open the email but rather right clicked the email and selected the "reply to sender" option. The attachment is a screen-shot capture of that window.

The email came from sender: —Thank-you-!-Amazon— and the subject of the email was: Re: ___Congratulations___ You-have-won+$500+Amazon-Giftcard

Obviously I did not open the email and naturally did not click through to what appears to be a hyperlink in the body. I have no idea what the "broken" graphics consisted of since I didn’t open the email and allow the images to load.

In your questions below this entry BBB asks a question that I cannot respond to since I didn’t open the email or click-through. However, you do not offer a "not sure" response so I responded "no" as the BBB scam form requires a response to this question: "Did the scammer attempt to take money?".

Thanks.

I ordered a kindle from Amazon.com on back order since they sold out on black Friday for the black Friday price. My order had been on back order for a month now when they suddenly canceled my order. When I called customer service they said they cancelled my order because they were out of stock. But when I get on the web site they do have the item I want but they are asking a price 15 dollars more and the customer service rep gets me to try to buy it at the inflated price. All I want . Is the merchandise at the price I ordered it at.
