Type of a scam Employment

Sent my resume in for a personal assistant job in St. Augustine. I get to work 15 hours a week and make $520 weekly with flexible hours. I received an email a few days later that he would like to hire me. I asked if we could have a formal conversation, but he was hard of hearing. He said he was in Europe traveling and would like this week to be as a test of my abilities to work on my own. He mentioned buying gifts for an orphanage and that he would send me funds along with my pay. I rec’d a check for $2,750. Having not spoken to him yet, I started to google scams and this sounds about right. I had him call me in regards to depositing check. He did, he wasn’t hard of hearing, I asked him what tasks I would be doing and he said paying some bills, stuff like that. No mention of an orphanage. I decided not to deposit the check. He is clearly working a scam, so I thought I should report it.
