I live in Midland, Michigan and I received a call this morning from (supposedly) the Eddy, TX BBB (254-323-0755) telling me that I have money coming from a lottery win – that I had been informed of earlier (SCAM??) by phone. If this is real I have great need for the winnings but they said i need the taxes paid first and that sent up a HUGE red flag. Could you please check out the for me and , if it is a scam, SHUT THEM DOWN!

Those are classic signs of a scam. No legitimate lottery or prize-awarding organization would ask for money up front. BBB does not award prizes or contact consumers to tell the they’ve won prizes from another organization. I will share this information internally and would also encourage you to file a scam report at https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker/reportscam.

Received a call this morning and let the answer machine pick it up. Caller identified as with the BBB and stated that there was an amount of money "found" for me and that I was to call the given number, toll free 680-666-1178. I guess further instructions would be given to me at that time. I continually get these kinds of phone calls and am really tired of it.

I hope you can stop these people from doing harm to any one.

Called and asked if my name was _____ when I said yes he said he was Gary with the BBB and he was calling to help me clear up a BBB claim against me. Did I have time to talk, I said no, he said no? I said no, I have someone at my desk across from me. He said he would call back, I said no, I would call him back to give me his number ( which I had from my caller ID) he stated his name was Gary and the line went dead. I blocked his number. The telephone was 518-745-9009 out of Glen Falls New York.

He had me type first CMD then enter on the icon screen and then he told me where to find the number he gave me. In the mean time, I asked what BBB he was calling from and he said Austin ,Tx 78754 I kept asking how I was going to get my money and he kept saying we don’t ask personal information and the form would tell me. ( now I know I have never paid for security and certainly not 499.00. I also know the BBB does not give refunds.) I was trying to get more info from him. First he told me it would be and check and later in the conversation he said I would have my money in 15 minutes. I asked how can you mail me a check in 15 min. He said it goes on your credit card or your bank account, which ever I want. At that point I told him he was changing things too much and I was uncomfortable and said good bye. called tx BBB and she gave me this site. he said I bought this 1-2 years ago and it was either Microsoft, windows or visa. He had my first name and the number he gave me was correct for my computer.

The e-mail was sent on 9/11/2017, but it went to my junk e-mail. I just saw it today 9/28/17 when I was cleaning out my junk e-mail. Therefore, I logged onto the BBB website and found that there were several almost identical scams reported around the same date. See below for the transcribed e-mail:

GOT E-MAIL FROM THEM SAYING THEY ARE WITH THE BBB AND OUR COMPANY HAS HAD COMPLAINTS OF HEALTH/SAFETY CONCERNS WHEN WE KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO SUCH COMPLAINT AND WANTED US TO CLICK ON A LINK. WE DID NOT DO IT. I SIMPLY RESPONDED TO THE E-MAIL AND TOLD THEM THAT I HAD CONTACTED THE FBE AND THE BBB TO REPORT THEM AND 2 MINUTES LATER THE EMAIL ADDRESS WOULD NO LONGER ACCEPT EMAIL. THEY WERE WANTTING MONEY TO FIX THE COMPLAINT.

I feel the BBB would likely mail a letter of complaint to our company rather than sending an email to us in my potential junk mail folder in my email.

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes

I received a very suspicious call from a person who said his name was Wayne Anderson, and he also claimed to work for the ScamPulse.com in Tampa, FL.  He called me from the number 876-883-1296, which is either an out of country number or a burner cell number, as that area code doesn’t show up in a search of US area codes.  He also gave me another number of 757-690-0121, which is in Virginia Beach, VA.

Anyway, he told me that I had won $8.5 million and a car and more cash, tax free.  And ALL I had to do was send him (or someone else by the name of Linda VanFossen) $399 for processing and handling.  I just needed to go to Walmart and get a Western Union receipt, and tomorrow they would come to my door with all of my prizes!  So after listening and playing along with all of his B.S., I told him he was full of it, and he proceeded to use some colorful four letter words and insults in my direction.  I told him to have a nice day and hung up.

Never in the history of the universe have I ever heard of having to pay anything to receive a prize/lottery/sweepstakes, other than income taxes, which are after the fact, not upfront through Western Union.

they wanted to lower my interest rate, as well as wanting all of my personal card info. Thank goodness I am not an [censored]. They said they were the ones who distributes the credit cards to banks. As soon as I looked up BBB, I told the guy many scam alerts popped up and he hung up right away

The man called wanted me to go to my computer to help me fill out a form to get my refund. He says his co. is contracted by the BBB to get people their refund. Would not allow me to check his business or anything it had to right then. He said he had already sent the form to my computer and he just wanted to help me fill it out and then he said he had to connect the BBB and us at the same time. He was very forceful on getting me to go to my computer and I hung up. The number he gave me was 805-621-7111 and he said to please help him complete his job. He sounded like the same group that calls saying there from Microsoft Windows. As we all should know HP, Microsoft, and any credible co. does not call you you call them. If it sounds to good it probably is. I hope this will help others since I have checked it out it sure seems to be.

Recorded message that was the ScamPulse.com and that my email had been compromised (which it had and working with new Go-Daddy as new service provider to fix). The recording was otherwise unidentified, and I have never gotten a recorded call like this, particularly recording stating call the ScamPulse.com representative back at phone number: 559-900-3424. I received a phone call this morning from a man named Micheal from the ScamPulse.com telling me my computer was having problems and he could help me. I kept asking him what company he was from because I didn’t realize that the BBB deals with fixing computers or that their employees would call from a cell phone. Figuring it was a scam I told him if I had issues with my computer I would contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer and then said goodbye.
