While trying to activate a Roku the phone number on the TV was directing me to this number. Which was not Roku. Once I paid the 199.99 the window blocking my device was gone and I was able to use my Roku. They called back later to refund as they don’t offer this “protection” anymore and wanted access to my computer. I did for a few seconds but it didn’t feel right. I think they still downloaded something. I shut down but still in the process of protecting all my other accounts.

So I went to roku.com/ activate to activate my tv I entered the code and it told me there was an error to call or talk to a live agent i called amd u all didnt have pho e people to assist me so i hit chat with an agent at the bottom of the screen from there someone asked for my email name and phone number then asked for my zip code explained to me there are 3 option of one time purchase to get roku services of free support and there was 3 plans basic with 3 years of service for 70 5 years for 100 and life time for 139 they sent me a link and said to pay and let her know when I was done and gave me an email where I had to send a customer review for my service then she sent me my login and password to login once I logged in I seen it said i should have never been charged amd says there are no charges but my bank account was charged 139.00 for streaming services. They had me email it to this address and they even sent me a receipt [email protected] why would you have talk to an agent on your website that was going to charge me if it clearly says your not suppose to if this was a scam why do they have access to your website to communicate with your customers and rip them off?

We were setting up Roku last Tuesday and this number 877-977-8579 appeared on the screen. I called, the rep, Adam, said he would call me right back. The number he called back from is 408-516-0129 (San Jose, CA). He wanted our account number to pay an activation fee for the account. I gave him my email address, but no account numbers. Later we got another call from San Jose, CA 408-516-0177. We called Roku, and they said there is no activation fee. I also got an email from another lady who said she didn’t initiate any changes to her account. She thought she was writing to Roku. I wrote her back, and told her she wasn’t writing to Roku, and to file a police report.

I was trying to activate a New Roku soundbar. I was instructed per TV screen “ Roku message to go to a website and enter the code I see on my screen, which I did and a message on the website said “ activation error call 937-340-2711. I was told that as of 03/01/2020, Roku customers had to pay a one time fee of $99.99. Which I did. My Roku account still was not activated. So I looked up tech support and called 833-766-4664 and talked to “John Miller” who said I had been scammed and told me to call my bank and have the 99.99 charge removed. I found out that “ John” was also a scam and sung up. That number came from Okotoks, Alberta Canada.

Purchased a roku Express from Walmart. While activating a 800 number appeared for me to call. I was told that the only way to activate was to pay a one year or lifetime one time fee of 129.00 this would cover any problems and allow up to 5 set ups. I already had one that was free of charge to activate…I mentioned that to the customer service worker and she became very defensive and rude. I research after the conversation and I was correct…roku activation is free. I have filed a dispute for the charge and will be returning this roku back to Walmart.

I went to Roku’s via computer to activate a new Roku device. I entered the code shown on my TV but evidently was intercepted by a fake site that said error and gave me a phone number to call for a Roku tech. the tech, Who said his name was Harry and said I need to pay 100$ to activate my Roku device. I told him Roku does not charge for activation or support. He insisted and said if I don’t pay 100$ I will not have TV. after at least an hour arguing he said the 100$ is a one time charge to activate my Roku device and I get all streaming services such as Hulu, Disney, Netflix and many more, internet security and support free for life. It all sounded legit and he did active my Roku device in no way I have ever seen. I saw channels being added on my TV like you would see when when setting up a ne TV with channel add. after checking out what I had, I found nothing was free. He did not ask for or need my Roku account or password, only email for purchase transaction. I notified my banking institution, the fraud department and I on a 3 way calling phoned " Harry" asking to cancel this service and refund my money. He agreed and said it would take up to 3 hours for my account to be credited back, still agrued with me saying you will not get TV. He lied, as of yet my money has not been credited back into my account and I had no Roku account to be canceled.

I had to go to www.roku.com/link website to get a code to activate a Roku account. Unfortunately, the code would not take. Before I knew it I was speaking to someone that did not give me any information when they started speaking. They wanted me to give them my cc# so they can charge $99.00 for a lifetime subscription to Roku. They also had a $149.00 promotion and 199.00. This didn’t sound right to me so, I told the man I was going to talk to my husband before I make a payment. The man said sure with a little laugh. I said to myself this was really weird and do not recall anyone ever mentioning they had to pay for a subscription.

I purchased a second Roku streaming stick and was having trouble activating it. I called what appeared to be a customer service number to troubleshoot the issue. I spoke to a representative and be just providing my email address they were able to tell me my name and debit card information. So i thought it was legitimate. They told me the reason i wasn’t able to activate it was because the supposed free trial i started when i purchased a Roku stick previously. Which I later found out was totally false. They said I had to pay a special warranty fee which totaled $150 which I paid. When I recently installed a third Roku stick I noticed it said on the home screen that there is no activation fee which caused me concern. I called what was the actual Roku customer service number and told them the situation along with providing my personal information to verify my account. He did not see a charge on my account for that amount at all and said that i was scammed. He also stated that this has happened before with other Roku customers. That is alarming. For someone to hack into their system that easily and take customers information is unfair and inconsiderate.

They called me and asked if I owned Sanyo Roku TV. I told them I did and that I purchased it about a year ago. They told me that my Roku subscription was over and that if I wanted to keep the Roku I would have to pay for it. $99 for one year, or $149 for lifetime subscription. They asked if I had a credit card and I told them I didn’t have it on me. They stated they would call back tomorrow and if you didn’t pay by then they would off the Roku subscription. I called the Walmart where I purchased the TV and asked them about it. the walmart store manager said that shouldn’t be the case and it sounds like scam.

They asked me for more information than I felt was necessary. A true company should already have my account info. They continually told me it was a one time activation fee that offered more channels and better services. They could not tell me why I needed to reactivate my present account. They seemed to have my television service locked up.

My tv screen says that Roku does not charge for activation or support that why I insisted. Only when I told them I wanted to speak to Roku directly did they give me a correct phone number.
